England Women's Six Nations Team Faces Double Injury Setback
The English women's rugby team has been dealt a significant blow with the loss of Morwenna Talling and Natasha Hunt due to injury, forcing them to withdraw from the remainder of the Women's Six Nations tournament. The injuries occurred during the team's 33-12 victory over Ireland at the Allianz Stadium, where a record-breaking crowd of 77,120 was in attendance. Talling, a lock, was forced off the field after 43 minutes, while Hunt, a replacement scrum-half, lasted only 13 minutes before being substituted due to her injury. This latest development adds to England's existing lock crisis, with Zoe Stratford, Abbie Ward, and Rosie Galligan having previously withdrawn from the tournament due to pregnancy. England head coach John Mitchell expressed his concerns about the team's lock situation, stating, 'We've lost four international locks, so we might end up being a team of back-rowers by the end of the competition. However, there are different ways to approach this game, and if we need to rely on our back-rowers, we'll make it work.' Talling and Hunt will remain with the England camp to consult specialists before commencing their rehabilitation at their respective clubs. In response to these injuries, the RFU has announced that Sydney Gregson and uncapped player Haidee Head have joined the squad to prepare for the upcoming match against Scotland at Murrayfield.
