Van Gerwen Eyes Third European Darts Grand Prix Title

Dutch darts star Michael van Gerwen is on the hunt for his third European Darts Grand Prix title in Sindelfingen, and he may face 'The Magpie' William O'Connor in the process. Van Gerwen's campaign begins against either O'Connor or Michael Unterbuchner, while two-time World Champion Gary Anderson starts his bid for a third consecutive title against either Niko Springer or Robin Masino. The event, which takes place from April 17-19, features a 48-player field competing for the top prize of £35,000. Anderson, who has not competed on the European Tour circuit since February, will be among six former European Darts Grand Prix winners in action. The opening round on Friday will feature 16 matches across two sessions, including German star Springer facing his countryman Masino, who makes his big-stage debut on home soil. Other former champions in action on Day One include Rob Cross, Peter Wright, and Kim Huybrechts, as well as 2019 winner Ian White, who replaces Ryan Joyce in the field. Scottish star Cameron Menzies will face five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld in a high-profile clash. Australian No 1 Damon Heta will take on Latvia's premier player Madars Razma, while former Masters champion Joe Cullen faces Maik Kuivenhoven, with the winner set to face top seed Gian van Veen. Friday's schedule includes an afternoon session at 12pm and an evening session at 6pm. The weekend will feature further rounds, culminating in the final on Sunday evening. The event is part of a busy darts schedule, with the Premier League also ongoing. The BetMGM Premier League heads to Liverpool, where home hero Stephen Bunting takes on Jonny Clayton, and Michael van Gerwen faces Josh Rock as he bids to make further progress towards the Play-Offs.
