Sinner Regains Top Spot in ATP Rankings After Monte Carlo Victory

Following his straight-sets win over Carlos Alcaraz in the Monte-Carlo Masters final, Jannik Sinner has reclaimed the world No 1 spot. Sinner outperformed Alcaraz in the windy conditions in Monaco, securing a 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 victory to claim the top position in the ATP rankings for the first time since November 2025. The match saw Sinner overcome a second-set deficit and extend his unbeaten run at Masters tournaments to 22 matches. This triumph marks Sinner's first win over Alcaraz on clay since 2022. Sinner expressed his delight at regaining the top spot, stating, 'The result is amazing. Returning to No 1 means a lot to me.' He also becomes one of the few men, alongside Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, to win four consecutive ATP 1000 titles. Alcaraz praised Sinner, saying, 'It's impressive what you are achieving right now. To win the Sunshine Double and Monte-Carlo, it's incredible. Congratulations for the work you're doing with your team.' The 17th meeting between the two tennis superstars was affected by the windy and overcast conditions, with neither player able to produce their best form. Despite breaking Sinner early, Alcaraz struggled to hold serve, allowing Sinner to capitalize on his errors and secure the win. Sinner and Alcaraz may face each other again in Barcelona, where Britain's Jack Draper will also compete, before the ATP 1000 events in Madrid and Rome. In other news, Mirra Andreeva won the Linz Open, defeating Anastasia Potapova 1-6 6-4 6-3. Andreeva came back from a set down to claim her second WTA title, praising Potapova as an 'amazing fighter and an even better person.'
