Bromley Miss Opportunity for Promotion After Cambridge Stalemate

Bromley's bid for promotion to League One has been put on hold after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Cambridge United at Hayes Lane. Cambridge had two golden opportunities to take the lead within the first 15 minutes, with Ben Knight and Dominic Ball both failing to find the target when presented with clear chances. Knight's effort was wide of the mark after he found himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Grant Smith, while Ball's shot from Liam Bennett's cross sailed inches wide. It wasn't until the 25-minute mark that Bromley created their first scoring chance, with Omar Sownunmi's header clearing the crossbar after beating goalkeeper Jack Walton. Cambridge threatened again on the half-hour mark, with Shayne Lavery's header from Adam Mayor's cross crashing against the bar. The second half was slow to get going, but Knight's powerful drive on the angle forced a sharp save from Grant Smith, which served as a wake-up call for the hosts. Ben Thompson then saw an effort from close range saved by Walton, before Jude Arthurs' follow-up chance was deflected over. With 10 minutes left to play, Smith made a superb save to tip Kelland Watts' header over the bar, but despite a late goalmouth scramble, neither side could find a breakthrough.
