Laura Robson's Grueling London Marathon Prep: From Melbourne to Miami
Former British tennis star Laura Robson, now a television presenter and analyst for Sky Sports Tennis, has been globe-trotting for work while training for the London Marathon. Her journey has taken her from the scorching heat of Melbourne during the Australian Open to the freezing temperatures of Milan Cortina at the Winter Olympics, and finally to the unpredictable weather of the Miami Open. As she returns to the UK, Robson is gearing up to tackle the 26.2-mile race, which will take her through iconic landmarks such as the Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge, and Canary Wharf, before culminating at Buckingham Palace. Robson confessed, 'I'm training for the London Marathon and it's brutal! I don't know why people do this.' Despite her grueling training regimen, which has included treadmill runs in the snow and keeping up with her pace using Garmin and Strava, Robson is uncertain if she can achieve her desired sub-3:30 finish. She stated, 'My Garmin and Strava seem to think I have a sub-3:30 in me, which I'm not sure that I have. I would be very happy with a sub-3:40.' Robson has been relying on a carb-heavy diet, increased electrolyte intake, and advice from her Padel-playing friends to help her prepare. When asked about her training experience, she mentioned the lack of motivation since returning home, saying, 'I could just sit in my house right now, but it's going to creep on me very fast, and I'll be happy when it's over.' Robson is looking forward to the electric atmosphere of the London Marathon, having witnessed it firsthand last year while supporting a friend. She expressed her excitement for the final kilometer, knowing it will soon be over, and is eager to finish her training. Robson is running in support of the charity Give It Your Max, which provides free tennis lessons, breakfast, and after-school clubs for kids in schools.
