Nijman Secures Fourth Ranking Title of 2026 with Dominant Display

Wessel Nijman continued his impressive start to 2026, claiming his fourth ranking title of the year at the Players Championship 10 in Wigan. He defeated former Grand Slam of Darts champion Scott Waites 8-2 in the final to reclaim the top spot in the Players Championship rankings. Nijman's victory came after Chris Dobey briefly overtook him following his win at Players Championship Nine, but the Dutchman responded with a strong performance at the Robin Park Tennis Centre. After a tough win against Martin Lukeman in his opener, Nijman went on to defeat Justin Hood, Adam Gawlas, Niels Zonneveld, Beau Greaves, and Luke Woodhouse on his way to the title. He averaged 109.71 against Greaves in the quarter-finals and 108.46 against Woodhouse in the semi-finals, showcasing his exceptional form. In the final, Nijman took advantage of Waites' slow start to establish an early lead, which he maintained throughout the match, eventually winning with a 101.34 average. "Today was probably the best floor event I've played all year," Nijman said, adding that he felt in the zone and could have played all day. He also expressed his happiness with his performance and his goal to break into the top 16. Nijman will look to continue his success at the European Darts Grand Prix this weekend. Meanwhile, Beau Greaves had a notable run, making it to the quarter-finals for the second consecutive time, with wins over Martin Schindler and Cameron Menzies.
