Wakefield surged past St Helens to claim fourth place in the Betfred Super League, thanks to a resounding 34-0 win over their West Yorkshire rivals, Castleford. Jake Trueman and Oliver Pratt each scored two tries to propel their team to victory. The match began with Trueman making a critical tackle on Tom Weaver, preventing Castleford from scoring early. He then scored a try at the other end, stretching to get the ball over the line. Jason Qareqare appeared to score for Castleford but was ruled out for having his foot in touch. Wakefield then scored their second try through Corey Hall in the 20th minute. Trueman intercepted a pass to deny Sam Hall a try, and soon after, Tyson Smoothy collected a pass from Tray Lolesio to score, putting Wakefield 16-0 ahead at halftime. Smoothy was denied another try due to a knock-on, but Wakefield extended their lead with a penalty from Max Jowitt. Jowitt then set up Pratt for an impressive finish in the corner in the 56th minute. Some swift teamwork allowed Cam Scott to score his first try, and soon after, Pratt scored his second, putting Wakefield 30-0 ahead. Pratt then assisted Trueman in scoring the final try in the 76th minute, capping off an emphatic win for Wakefield, their fifth consecutive victory in all competitions. Wakefield are now level on points with league leaders Warrington, as well as Leeds, Wigan, and St Helens. Castleford, however, has slipped to the bottom of the standings due to the heavy loss, below York and Leigh on points difference.
