Renowned Horse Sir Gino Passes Away Due to Severe Infections

Tragic news has emerged that Sir Gino, a multiple Grade One winner trained by Nicky Henderson, has succumbed to severe deep-seated infections. The six-year-old horse had been recovering from a fractured pelvis sustained during the Unibet Hurdle at Cheltenham in January. Despite hopes for a full recovery at Henderson's Seven Barrows yard, the infections ultimately proved too severe, and the difficult decision was made to put Sir Gino down. In a statement, Henderson expressed his sadness, praising Sir Gino as an exceptionally kind and brilliant horse. The horse's career was marked by an impressive unbeaten record, including seven consecutive wins and three Grade 1 victories over hurdles, as well as a remarkable performance in a Grade 2 Chase. Henderson reflected on Sir Gino's remarkable talent, suggesting he was among the best horses they had ever trained, leaving a significant void at Seven Barrows and a profound sense of loss for owners Joe and Marie Donnelly.
