England’s rising rugby star Henry Pollock has made it clear that he is not only focused on securing his future in the Premiership, but also open to the idea of testing his limits in other sports and perhaps even playing abroad. While negotiations with Northampton Saints are reportedly at an advanced stage, the 21‑year‑old flanker has also signed with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Talent Agency, a move that signals his desire to broaden his professional horizons beyond the traditional rugby pathway.
Pollock explained his mindset in a recent interview, saying, “I definitely want to go and live in different countries, explore new sports, explore new avenues.” He added that the Matchroom team is constantly in touch, presenting him with a variety of opportunities that he is eager to consider. “Eddie and the Matchroom crew keep messaging me, calling me about different avenues, and they’ve been fantastic with that kind of stuff.
I’m not going to say no to any opportunity,” he affirmed. At present, however, rugby remains his top priority.
The flanker emphasized that his immediate focus is on finalising a new contract with the Gallagher Premiership champions Northampton Saints. “At the minute rugby is my main priority so I’m focusing on that in the near future, but as I said, you never know what’s happening around the corner,” he said, underscoring a pragmatic approach that balances ambition with a realistic assessment of his current career stage. Eddie Hearn, the founder of Matchroom Sport, has already spoken highly of Pollock’s commercial appeal.
In August, Hearn told Northampton officials that the young England international is “certainly a seven‑figure player” because of the marketability he brings to the table. Pollock has taken the £1 million‑plus valuation in stride, viewing it not as a burden but as an affirmation of his work ethic and talent.
“I don’t see it as pressure,” he remarked. “I see it as him doing his job.
He’s the best sports promoter in the world. The reason he’s the best is because he gets his client what he deserves.” Pollock’s relationship with Hearn has been described as mutually beneficial.
“Eddie’s been great for me and he’s given me so many avenues to get into. The way that he can give me access to loads of different stuff has been amazing,” the flanker said.
He added that he holds no grievances toward his promoter and believes that rugby as a sport needs to evolve, hoping his own career moves might contribute to that change. Despite the myriad possibilities that lie ahead, the consensus among insiders is that Pollock is close to committing his future to Northampton Saints. The club has been described by the player as “special” and a key factor in his development. “Northampton’s been so great to me, I’ve been here my whole career and they’ve made me who I am.
For me to stay here would be so special,” Pollock explained. Yet he is also realistic about the complexities involved in any long‑term decision.
“Obviously, I know it’s not as easy as that and I know there’s lots of moving parts that come into play. I’m very open to new opportunities and I’m very open to exploring that,” he said.
The flanker’s youth is another element that shapes his outlook. “I’m so young so I think it’s only right that I assess those options and find the best decision for myself,” he noted. He stressed that a professional sporting career is relatively short, and the regret of not taking chances can linger. “Your career is so short that you look back on yourself and you almost regret not exploring new avenues, exploring different things,” he reflected.
In this light, he believes a degree of self‑interest is necessary when charting his path. “I think for me, you almost have to be quite selfish in that aspect, think what’s right for you.
If that is staying here, then that’s great, I’ll be here for however long. If it’s not, then I’ll be open to new opportunities.” Looking beyond rugby, Pollock has hinted at a genuine curiosity about other athletic disciplines. While he has not named specific sports, his willingness to consider cross‑training or even a temporary switch reflects a broader trend among modern athletes who seek to diversify their skill sets and marketability. This openness could see him explore avenues such as athletics, rugby league, or even emerging sports entertainment formats that align with his brand.
In summary, Henry Pollock stands at a crossroads where a promising rugby career intersects with the potential for a more eclectic sporting journey. His negotiations with Northampton Saints suggest a likely continuation with the club that has nurtured his talent, yet his partnership with Matchroom and his expressed desire to live abroad indicate that he will keep his options open. Whether he ultimately stays in the Premiership, moves overseas, or dabbles in a different sport, Pollock’s proactive approach and willingness to embrace change signal a bright and adaptable future for the young England flanker.
