Anna Nordqvist, captain of the Solheim Cup, aims to maintain her focus on the AIG Women's Open after deciding not to play as a captain for Team Europe. Nordqvist will announce her four Solheim Cup captain's picks on Monday, following the conclusion of the women's major.
As the top-performing European at the Amundi Evian Championship, finishing tied for seventh, and sharing 28th place at the ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open, Nordqvist has been juggling her Solheim Cup preparations. She confirmed on social media that she wouldn't select herself as a player and explained her decision after the first round. 'There's a lot of speculation about the picks, and it's challenging,' Nordqvist said.
'I'm trying to focus on my game, and after the tournament, I can address other matters.' With her mind 'absolutely shattered' due to the numerous questions and commitments, Nordqvist is prioritizing her performance in the AIG Women's Open. The top two players in the European Solheim Cup points list and the next six in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings will earn automatic spots, while others will rely on a captain's pick. Several players, including Chiara Tamburlini and Helen Briem, are competing for a spot via the Ladies European Tour ranking.
Nordqvist emphasized the importance of consistent performance over a two-year period, rather than relying on a single week. 'You can't leave it up to just one week; you need to make it off the rankings,' she said. The AIG Women's Open will continue to be broadcast live on Sky Sports Golf, with early coverage starting on Friday at 9 am.
