Jerry Kelly secured a two-shot win at the ISPS HANDA Senior Open at Gleneagles, marking his third major victory on the PGA Tour Champions. He finished with a 10-under score after making a birdie on the final hole, having navigated a greenside bunker. The 59-year-old golfer carded a 68 in the final round, with three birdies on the front nine and bogeys at the sixth and 11th holes.
Kelly's win earns him a spot at the 155th Open at St Andrews next year, a feat that left him speechless. "The senior Claret Jug is the trophy I've wanted most as an over-50 golfer," Kelly said.
"To achieve this in Scotland, at the home of golf, and secure a spot at St Andrews, is beyond words." Cameron Percy, who shared the lead with Kelly after 54 holes, was unable to break 70 over the weekend, ultimately sharing second place with Darren Fichardt and Matt Gogel. Gogel notched a closing seven-under 63, while Scotland's Stephen Gallacher finished fifth with an impressive eight-under 62, the round of the day. Gallacher's performance included five birdies on the front nine, with further gains at the 10th and 11th holes, before bouncing back from a bogey at the 12th to end with a birdie.
This victory follows Stewart Cink's wins in the first two majors of the season, and Padraig Harrington's US Senior Open win, as well as Zach Johnson's Kaulig Companies Championship victory.
