In a remarkable turn of events, the struggling Castleford Tigers managed to defeat Wigan 24-14 at the Brick Community Stadium, thanks to an impressive second-half performance. Having suffered a crushing 34-0 loss to Wakefield in their previous league match, Castleford found themselves at the bottom of the table, but they quickly turned the tide with an early try from Krystian Mapapalangi, following a swift break down the left flank, with Tom Weaver successfully converting the attempt. Wigan, seeking to level with the league leaders, appeared poised to score in the 16th minute when Jai Field broke through, only to be pushed out of bounds behind the line by a brilliant defensive tackle from Mikaele Ravalawa before he could ground the ball. Wigan eventually got on the board in the 24th minute with an athletic diving try from Dayon Sambou in the corner, after the ball had been moved across the line, with Adam Keighran adding the extras from a tight angle.
The Warriors took the lead shortly before halftime with a high kick from Jack Farrimond being knocked down by Sambou, allowing Zach Eckersley to score, and a penalty from Keighran made it 14-6. Castleford regrouped at the restart, with Jack Ashworth powering over down the left in the 45th minute, and an improvised kick through from Mapapalangi allowed him to barge past Field and score another try, putting the visitors back in front. The Tigers maintained their momentum as George Lawler broke through three Wigan defenders to score a fourth try just before the hour mark, with Weaver's conversion extending the lead to 10 points.
A video review later ruled out another try from Weaver due to obstruction in the buildup, and Wigan successfully challenged a late penalty for tackling without the ball. Nevertheless, Castleford closed out a well-deserved victory as the clock ticked down.
