According to George Russell, the Mercedes team is diligently working to improve their race starts, a notable weakness, ahead of the Formula 1 season's resumption in Miami. Despite achieving four front row lockouts in the initial three Grands Prix and Sprint, neither Russell nor his teammate has managed to secure the lead after the first lap. The team has been leveraging data analysis to address this issue, with Russell emphasizing the extensive work being done 'behind the scenes.' Ferrari has currently demonstrated the best starts, attributed to their smaller turbo, which facilitates quicker spin-up times and enables drivers to more easily find the optimal launch window. While opportunities to practice starts are limited, the Mercedes team is focusing on data-driven improvements to overcome their significant flaw.
