Bromley Miss Opportunity for Promotion After Goalless Draw with Cambridge

Bromley's bid for promotion to League One has been put on hold following a 0-0 draw with Cambridge United at Hayes Lane. Cambridge had two golden opportunities to take the lead within the first 15 minutes, but Ben Knight and Dominic Ball both missed chances, with Knight shooting wide and Ball's effort also going wide from Liam Bennett's cross. Bromley did not create their first scoring chance until the 25-minute mark, when Omar Sownunmi's header sailed over the crossbar, with goalkeeper Jack Walton beaten. Cambridge had another chance to score on the half-hour mark, with Shayne Lavery's header from Adam Mayor's cross hitting the bar. The second half took some time to gain momentum, but Knight's powerful drive from an angle forced a sharp save from Grant Smith. This prompted a response from the hosts, with Ben Thompson seeing an effort from close range saved by Walton, before Jude Arthurs' follow-up chance was deflected over. With 10 minutes remaining, Smith made a brilliant save to tip Kelland Watts' header over, but despite a late goalmouth scramble, neither side could find a breakthrough. The Super 6 competition offers a £250,000 prize, and entries are free and open until 3pm on Saturday.
