Southampton continued their impressive march towards automatic promotion with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Swansea, courtesy of a stunning late volley from Cameron Archer. The Saints' substitute scored in the 90th minute to secure a seventh consecutive Championship victory for Tonda Eckert's side, propelling them to within a point of second-placed Millwall and level with third-placed Ipswich. This triumph marks Southampton's eighth successive win in all competitions, following their recent FA Cup success against Arsenal.

Swansea, who led at halftime through Marko Stamenic's 20th-minute goal, dropped to 15th place. The visitors equalized in the 57th minute through Shea Charles before Archer sealed the win with his second goal in as many games. Despite a strong start, Swansea's tempo slowed, but they still managed to take the lead after 20 minutes.

The goal came from a throw-in on the left, which ended with Eom Ji-sung's deep cross being headed back across goal by Zan Vipotnik, and Stamenic scored his third goal of the season. The match was marked by yellow cards, with Swansea's Goncalo Franco and Melker Widell, as well as Southampton's Flynn Downes, being cautioned. A penalty appeal by Southampton for a trip on Ross Stewart was waved away, and the striker later shot over.

As the visitors ended the half strongly, Swansea goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux produced a fine save to deny James Bree. Southampton began the second half with urgency, replacing Downes with Charles at the break. Despite resolute defending from Swansea, the visitors eventually equalized through Charles, who headed home from close range after Leo Scienza flicked on a cross from Finn Azaz.

With their tails up, Saints pushed for a winner, but Swansea survived and created openings of their own in the late stages. However, Archer's late volley sealed the win for Southampton, despite Jay Fulton's attempted block on the line.
