LIV Golf CEO Addresses Financial Concerns Amid Speculation
LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil has downplayed concerns about the series' funding, stating that it is "funded through the season" and that the organization will "work like crazy" to ensure its continuation. This comes amid speculation that the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), which backs the breakaway golf league, may withdraw its financial support. The PIF has invested a reported $5 billion in the series since its inception in 2021. O'Neil's comments were in response to rumors sparked by LIV team captain Sergio Garcia's allusions to funding being in place until 2030. The LIV Golf CEO emphasized that the series has commitments in place to ensure its continuation and that it is no different from any other private equity-funded business. Earlier in the week, O'Neil informed LIV staff that the current season would proceed as planned, without interruption. The PIF has not commented on the matter, but its governor, Yasir Al Rumayyan, recently stated that some deals and investments are being reviewed due to economic feasibility and the Middle East conflict. Some LIV Golf players, including Ryder Cup star Jon Rahm, have expressed confidence in the series' future, with Rahm stating that he is "not too worried" about the rumors.
