The final leaderboard is in for the Masters golf tournament, the first major of the year, which took place at Augusta National in Augusta, Georgia. Rory McIlroy, the defending champion, made history by successfully defending his title, becoming the first player to do so since Tiger Woods. McIlroy won the tournament last year in a playoff against Justin Rose, completing the career Grand Slam and becoming the sixth player in history to achieve this feat. This year, McIlroy posted a one-under 71 to finish one stroke ahead of Scottie Scheffler, the world's number one golfer, who was the pre-tournament favorite to win despite not having a top 10 finish in his last three PGA Tour starts.
Tyrrell Hatton finished in third place, tied with Justin Rose, Cameron Young, and Russell Henley. The top 10 was rounded out by Collin Morikawa, Sam Burns, Max Homa, and Xander Schauffele. The PGA Tour will head to South Carolina for the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head Island, where Justin Thomas will return as the defending champion.
The next men's major is the PGA Championship, which will take place from May 14-17 at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania.
