England's Joe Launchbury Announces Retirement Plans

Veteran England lock Joe Launchbury has confirmed he will hang up his boots at the end of the current season. With 70 caps for England between 2012 and 2022, Launchbury has had a storied career, including three Six Nations titles and appearances at the 2015 and 2019 Rugby World Cups. After joining Quins in 2023, Launchbury has made 50 appearances, though his time on the pitch has been limited to just six games this term. In a statement on Harlequins' website, Launchbury expressed his gratitude, saying, "The time feels right to step away from rugby at the end of this season." He reflected on his career, "I've been fortunate to represent the teams I have, and to have worn the England shirt 70 times is an honor." Launchbury also thanked his teammates, past and present, stating, "The friendships we have built go far beyond rugby." He acknowledged the toll his career has taken on his body and expressed a desire to remain involved in the sport, but for now, he is looking forward to spending more time with his family and watching his children grow up.
