Nijman Secures Fourth Ranking Title of 2026 with Dominant Performance

Wessel Nijman continued his impressive start to 2026, claiming his fourth ranking title of the year at the Players Championship 10 in Wigan. Nijman defeated former Grand Slam of Darts champion Scott Waites 8-2 in the final, reclaiming the top spot in the Players Championship rankings. This victory came after Chris Dobey briefly overtook Nijman following his win at Players Championship Nine. Nijman responded with a strong performance, starting with a hard-fought win against Martin Lukeman and then defeating Justin Hood to advance to round three. He then dominated Adam Gawlas, averaging nearly 110 in a six-leg win, before defeating Niels Zonneveld and Beau Greaves with impressive averages. In the semi-final, Nijman averaged 108.46 against Luke Woodhouse. The final saw Nijman capitalize on Waites' slow start, establishing an early lead and maintaining control throughout the match. Despite Waites narrowing the gap in leg three, Nijman regained control and eventually won with a 101.34 average. "Today was probably the best floor event I've played all year," Nijman said, also referencing his wins at Players Championships Two and Eight. Nijman, who recently achieved his first big-stage success at the European Darts Trophy, is now targeting more success at the European Darts Grand Prix. "When I'm in that zone and playing good, I could play all day like that," he added, now climbing to 18th on the PDC Werner Rankings Ladder. Elsewhere, Beau Greaves impressed with back-to-back quarter-finals, featuring wins over Martin Schindler and Cameron Menzies. The last 16 saw notable results, including Nijman's win over Zonneveld and Greaves' victory over Menzies. The quarter-finals and semi-finals also saw strong performances from Nijman, who ultimately faced Waites in the final. With this win, Nijman solidifies his position, and the question remains: who will win this year's Premier League Darts?
