Sinner and Alcaraz Advance to Quarter-Finals at Monte-Carlo Masters

Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner ended his 37-set winning streak at the Masters 1000 level but still managed to secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the Monte-Carlo Masters. He achieved this by defeating Tomas Machac with a score of 6-1, 6-7, and 6-3. Sinner had previously won titles at Indian Wells and the Miami Open without dropping a set, earning him the Sunshine Double. Despite struggling with fatigue, Sinner pushed through to claim victory over his Czech opponent and continue his pursuit of dethroning the current world No. 1, Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner will face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-finals after Auger-Aliassime's opponent, Casper Ruud, was forced to retire due to injury. Alcaraz also dropped a set but went on to win 6-1, 4-6, and 6-3 against Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry, allowing him to continue his title defence. The pressure is mounting for Alcaraz as a potential title win for Sinner could lead to Sinner reclaiming the world No. 1 spot. Alcaraz will play Alexander Bublik in the quarter-finals, while other notable matches include Joao Fonseca's win over Matteo Berrettini and Alexander Zverev's victory over Zizou Bergs. Additionally, Valentin Vacherot made history as the first Monegasque player to reach the top eight in the Open Era in Monaco.
