Alcaraz Withdraws from Barcelona Open Due to Wrist Injury

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has pulled out of the Barcelona Open due to a wrist injury that is more severe than initially thought. Alcaraz, who won his first match but struggled with wrist pain, was set to face Tomas Machac in the second round. The two-time Barcelona champion had recently lost the Monte-Carlo Masters final to Jannik Sinner and was attempting to regain his world No 1 ranking. After undergoing medical tests, Alcaraz decided to withdraw from the tournament to avoid further injury and begin his recovery. He faces a tight schedule to regain fitness before defending his French Open title, which starts on May 24. Meanwhile, British No 1 Cameron Norrie advanced to the quarter-finals in Barcelona, while Katie Boulter progressed to the last eight on the WTA Tour. Novak Djokovic also announced his return to action at the Mutua Madrid Open, live on Sky Sports Tennis from April 21 to May 3.
