Maro Itoje has expressed his confidence in Steve Borthwick, stating that England is capable of achieving remarkable success under his guidance, despite a disappointing Six Nations campaign. England's poor performance saw them finish fifth, with four consecutive defeats, including a historic loss to Italy.
However, RFU chief executive Bill Sweeney has indicated that Borthwick will be given the opportunity to lead the team in the upcoming Nations Championship. Itoje acknowledges that England fell short of expectations, but believes that Borthwick and his coaching staff can turn things around. "We have faith in our approach," Itoje said. "Steve and his team, including Richard Wigglesworth, Kevin Sinfield, Joe Shaw, and Lee Blackett, are all exceptional coaches.
We need to come together as a team, learn from our mistakes, and move forward positively. Although we didn't achieve the desired results, my confidence in the team remains unchanged. I firmly believe that this England team will go on to accomplish great things, we just need to learn from our lessons and move forward."
