Mercedes Intensifies Efforts to Enhance Race Starts

George Russell reveals that Mercedes is diligently working to improve their starting performance for the upcoming Formula 1 season, which resumes in Miami in May. Despite achieving four front-row lockouts in the first three Grands Prix and Sprint, neither Russell nor his teammate has managed to take the lead after the initial lap. The team's weakness in starts has been somewhat mitigated by their ability to fight back and secure victories in the opening three races. Ferrari, meanwhile, has shown exceptional starting prowess this season, thanks to their compact turbo, which enables quicker spin-up times and facilitates finding the ideal launch window. Although opportunities to practice starts are limited to the end of free practice sessions during Grand Prix weekends, Russell emphasizes that the team is thoroughly analyzing data to address their significant flaw. Speaking during Pirelli tire testing in Germany, Russell underscored the extensive work being done behind the scenes, including simulator days and data analysis, to prepare for the upcoming sprint races in Miami and Montreal.
