Grey Dawning Outruns Solness in Thrilling Melling Chase Victory

In a masterful display of strategy, Grey Dawning successfully dropped back in distance to outmaneuver Solness in the JCB Melling Chase at Aintree. Trained by Joseph O'Brien, Solness took the early lead, only to be overtaken by Grey Dawning, who jumped flawlessly under the guidance of Harry Skelton. The two horses engaged in a fierce duel, with Grey Dawning's stamina ultimately proving decisive as he claimed a narrow neck victory. Following the win, Dan Skelton reflected on the decision to shorten the distance, stating, 'We were doing well but not quite winning, so we had to try something different.' Skelton also praised the performance of Solness, saying, 'All credit to Solness - being in front the whole way, what a horse to put in a run like that.' Jockey J J Slevin expressed pride in Solness's performance, noting, 'It was a great run, Joseph brought him here in great shape.'
