Rachael Blackmore to Receive Grand National Legend Honor

Rachael Blackmore, a trailblazing jockey who etched her name in history as the first woman to claim the Randox Grand National, is set to be inducted as a Grand National Legend in 2026. Following her groundbreaking victory at Aintree in 2021 aboard Minella Times, the 36-year-old, now retired, will be recognized at a ceremony marking the opening day of the Grand National Festival this Thursday. Blackmore joins an esteemed group of racing luminaries, including Ginger McCain, Jenny Pitman, and JP McManus, as well as legendary horses Red Rum, Tiger Roll, and Aldaniti, in being named a Grand National Legend. The induction ceremony will be held near the newly named Blackmore's Bar, which Rachael will officially open on Thursday. Reflecting on the honor, Blackmore stated, "The memory of winning the Randox Grand National on Minella Times at Aintree is forever etched in my mind. To now see my name alongside other Grand National Legends is a tremendous honor, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be a part of this legacy. I'm also excited to launch Blackmore's Bar at the racecourse, an opportunity I never thought I'd have. It's an innovative idea that I hope will bring enjoyment to everyone during the festival week." After announcing her retirement from riding in May 2025 with 575 career wins, including 18 victories at the Cheltenham Festival, this latest recognition solidifies Blackmore's enduring impact on the sport.
