Cameron Makes History as Two-Weight World Champion, Sets Sights on Mayer

Chantelle Cameron has become a two-weight world champion, capturing the vacant WBO super-welterweight title with a unanimous decision win over Michaela Kotaskova. Following her victory, Cameron called for a fight against Mikaela Mayer, facing off with the American star in the ring. 'I have immense respect for Mikaela Mayer; she's an exceptional fighter. I've wanted this fight for a long time,' Cameron expressed to Sky Sports. 'We've been in talks, and I believe we should give the fans an exciting fight for women's boxing.' Cameron, a former undisputed world champion at 140lbs and the only professional to defeat Katie Taylor, made her super-welter debut and competed in the first women's world title fight with three-minute rounds on UK soil. She won the unanimous decision with scores of 100-90 and 99-91 twice after 10 three-minute rounds. Cameron applied consistent pressure, finding success with targeted body work that drained Kotaskova and forced her to back away. As the bout progressed, Cameron's confidence grew, landing uppercuts, hooks, and rights that left Kotaskova reeling. Although both fighters sustained marks and bruises, Cameron was the one dishing out the more hurtful punches. Kotaskova occasionally landed shots but became increasingly desperate, throwing pattering punches to try to dissuade Cameron. In the eighth round, Cameron shook Kotaskova with a left hook, but the Czech fighter refused to back down. In the next round, Kotaskova came out swinging, trading blows with Cameron, and took heart from that, coming on again in the final round. Cameron covered up and landed a fine left hook, securing her decision victory. In other action, Irma Garcia defended her IBF super-flyweight title, stopping Emma Dolan in three rounds. Garcia, a vastly more experienced pro fighter and a two-time world champion, is also a police officer and qualified lawyer. After a competitive first round, Garcia changed the tide of the fight in the second, stunning Dolan with a hook and knocking her down. Garcia continued to dominate, eventually forcing Dolan's corner to pull her out. Former WBA bantamweight world champion Shannon Courtenay continued her comeback, halting Sasha Booker in three rounds. Courtenay looked dangerous, nailing Booker with her backhand and left hook, eventually dropping her in the third round. Booker was counted out on a knee, clutching her head, with three seconds left. Courtenay is now seeking a rematch with Ebanie Bridges, whom she beat in 2021 to win the WBA belt. 'I won a world title, had the world at my feet, lost it, and everything came crashing down. I only have myself to blame,' Courtenay said. 'I want the Bridges fight.' Finnish prospect Teresa Makinen preserved her unbeaten record, coming through a tight eight-rounder with Chloe Watson. Makinen managed to steer herself to a 77-75 victory. Elizabeth Oshoba, Nigeria's 2022 Commonwealth Games medallist, handed Chelsey Arnell a third-round stoppage defeat. Oshoba lined up a pair of backhand shots, rocking Arnell and prompting the referee to step in and wave off the bout 42 seconds into the third.
