From Humble Beginnings to Serie A Stardom: Keinan Davis' Unlikely Rise to Challenge Harry Kane

Keinan Davis' football career has undergone two major transformations, the first in Bedfordshire and the second in Udine. Released by Stevenage at 17, Davis was taken under the wing of Biggleswade Town's U18s coach, Dave Northfield, who later persuaded him to join Udinese in Serie A. "It was different, and it came towards the end of the transfer window talks. I had a lot of Championship options, but when Udinese came in, I had to get some advice from Dave Northfield," Davis said in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports. "He told me about playing at the San Siro instead of in the Championship, and when I put it into perspective, I thought it was a no-brainer." Since his move to Udinese, Davis has reached new heights, becoming a strong contender for the Serie A Golden Boot award with 10 goals and three assists in 26 appearances. This form has not always been the case for the 28-year-old, whose six-year spell at Aston Villa was marred by injuries. Loan moves to Nottingham Forest and Watford followed, but it was the move to Udinese that has paid dividends for both Davis and the club. "A lot of players will feel that when they leave England, they kind of have an attachment there to always go back or when they leave, they plan to go back," Davis added. "My plan was to never go back. My plan was just to see how high I could go across the world." Fitness has been a significant factor in Davis' surge in form this season, having already surpassed his highest minutes tally for Villa. However, he attributes his success to a change in mentality, saying, "It's just mentality. I always felt like in my abilities, I was a good player and I could do what I'm doing now, but I just never really had the belief in myself, especially at Villa." With the 2026 World Cup approaching, the debate around England's striking options is heating up. Harry Kane is undoubtedly the lead striker, but Davis' form has put him in contention for a spot in Thomas Tuchel's plans. "To play for England would be incredible, but it's just never been one of the top things on my list to do," Davis said. "Of course, I would love to play for England, that would be one of the proudest things I've ever done if I did play for England." An England call-up may or may not be on the horizon, but one thing is certain – with confidence at an all-time high, fitness on his side, and goals flowing freely, Davis is ready to take his career to the next level.
