The Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club has been chosen to host the 156th Open Championship in 2028, marking its return to the venue for the first time since 2012. This decision means that Donald Trump's Turnberry Golf Club will not be hosting The Open in the near future due to logistical challenges.
The R&A Chief Executive, Mark Darbon, stated that while they are open-minded about the possibility of Turnberry hosting The Open, the current logistical issues must be addressed. Meanwhile, Muirfield has also been omitted from the R&A's immediate plans, with its return to The Open rotation not expected until at least 2031. The 2028 Open Championship will take place from August 3 to August 6, and it will be the first time the event has been held in August since its schedule was adjusted to avoid clashing with the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
