Lando Norris is optimistic about McLaren's chances of defending their world titles when the F1 season resumes at the Miami Grand Prix, despite the strong starts of Mercedes and Ferrari. The reigning champion has not had a podium finish in the first three races, but his teammate Oscar Piastri finished second in Japan. Norris believes that with nearly five weeks to work on their cars, there is still an opportunity to turn the situation around. 'I think we can have a good season, even if we're not where we want to be right now,' said Norris, who trails early championship leader Kimi Antonelli by 47 points.
Norris emphasized that the team will not give up and will push hard for the championship, citing previous examples where they have improved their position by the end of the season. The team is focusing on resolving reliability issues and ensuring they understand how to get the most out of their car and power unit. Norris' teammate Piastri also expressed confidence in the team's ability to get into regular victory contention over the remaining 19 races.
'We have a lot of work to do to be back at the front consistently, but closing the gap to Mercedes and out-developing the field is something that's within our control,' said Piastri.
