Mercedes Working to Improve Race Starts with Behind-the-Scenes Efforts

According to George Russell, the Mercedes team is putting in significant effort 'behind the scenes' to enhance their race starts, with the Formula 1 season set to resume in Miami. Despite achieving four front row lockouts in the first three Grands Prix and Sprint, neither Russell nor his teammate has taken the lead after the opening lap. Mercedes' biggest weakness is their start, but they have demonstrated sufficient pace to bounce back and win the initial three races. Ferrari has shown strength in starts this season, thanks to their compact turbo, which allows for quicker spin-up and an easier launch. Although drivers have limited opportunities to practice starts during Grand Prix weekends, Russell emphasized that the team is focusing on data analysis to address their flaw. 'There's a lot going on that people don't see,' Russell stated, highlighting the team's dedication to improvement through simulator days and data analysis. With the upcoming Miami and Montreal sprint races, the team is working diligently to rectify their issue.
