Andoni Iraola Set to Depart Bournemouth as Club Shortlists Three Potential Replacements

Bournemouth's head coach, Andoni Iraola, has announced his decision to leave the club at the end of the current season. According to Sky Sports News, former RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund manager Marco Rose is among the top candidates to succeed Iraola. Iraola's contract is set to expire in three months, and despite numerous offers to extend his stay, he has chosen not to renew, amid interest from his former club Athletic Club and other Premier League teams. With six games remaining, Iraola will depart Bournemouth after a record-breaking three-year tenure, stating, "This is the right moment for me to step away." His final home game will be against Manchester City on May 17, followed by a trip to Nottingham Forest on the last day of the Premier League season. Although Bournemouth attempted to persuade Iraola to stay, they respect his decision, and a mutual understanding remains between the two parties. The club had been searching for a new head coach in the background and has shortlisted three favored candidates. Currently 11th in the league, Bournemouth still has a chance to qualify for Europe, sitting two points behind seventh place. Since his appointment in June 2023, Iraola has implemented an attacking and dynamic style of football, leading the team to a club-record 56 points last season. This season, he has had to cope with the sales of several key players, including Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, and Antoine Semenyo, for a total of £253m. Iraola's departure will make him one of the most sought-after coaching prospects in the Premier League. Athletic Club is interested in bringing him back to the Basque Country, while other clubs, such as Crystal Palace and Tottenham, have also been linked to him. However, Tottenham has since appointed Roberto De Zerbi, and Crystal Palace has moved on to other targets. Manchester United is yet to make a decision on their next head coach, and speculation surrounding Eddie Howe's future at Newcastle has led to Iraola becoming the favorite to take over at St James' Park.
