Great Britain Stuns Australia to Secure Spot in Billie Jean King Cup Finals

In a remarkable display, Jodie Burrage and Harriet Dart led Great Britain to a 3-0 victory over Australia in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifier, securing their spot in the finals. The British duo dominated their doubles match against Storm Hunter and Ellen Perez, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. After a rocky start, Burrage and Dart rebounded to win five consecutive games following the closure of the roof on John Cain Arena. The pair then traded breaks early in the second set before serving out the match to seal the victory for their team. An emotional Burrage expressed her pride and elation, having overcome significant health setbacks, including wrist surgery and an ankle ligament rupture, last year. Her teammate, Dart, described the experience as 'surreal,' emphasizing the team's impressive performance despite the absence of key players like Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter. With this win, Great Britain has now secured four consecutive qualifier rubbers in the Billie Jean King Cup, with previous victories over France, Germany, and the Netherlands. They will proceed to the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Shenzhen, set to take place in September, where they will compete against the host nation, China, and the other six tie winners from the qualifiers. Captain Anne Keothavong praised her team's exceptional performance, stating that she couldn't ask for more and is 'so proud of them.' Having led the team since 2016, Keothavong believes Great Britain is 'due something special' after reaching the semi-finals last year and is optimistic about their chances of winning the Billie Jean King Cup.
