Great Britain Secures Thrilling Victory Over Australia to Advance to Billie Jean King Cup Finals

In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Jodie Burrage and Harriet Dart led Great Britain to a decisive 3-0 victory over Australia in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifier, securing their spot in the finals. The duo dominated their doubles match against Storm Hunter and Ellen Perez, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. The British pair trailed early in the first set but rallied after the roof on John Cain Arena was closed, reeling off five consecutive games to take the lead. After a closely contested second set, Burrage and Dart served out the match to seal the victory for their team. An emotional Burrage, who has overcome significant injuries, expressed her pride in the team's performance, saying, 'That feels amazing... I'm proud of us for the way that we played.' Dart added, 'It's crazy... to be able to make the finals is just kind of surreal.' Despite missing key players, including Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter, the British team delivered impressive performances, with Mika Stojsavljevic, 17, making a notable debut. Great Britain has now won its last four qualifier rubbers in the Billie Jean King Cup, defeating France, Germany, Netherlands, and Australia. The team will proceed to the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Shenzhen, China, in September, where they will compete against the other six tie winners and host nation China. Captain Anne Keothavong praised her team, saying, 'We're all just overjoyed... the tennis that was played yesterday and today was just fantastic.' Keothavong believes Great Britain is 'due something special' after reaching the semi-finals last year and is confident that her team can make a strong showing in the finals.
