LIV Golf CEO Addresses Financial Concerns Amid Speculation
LIV Golf's CEO, Scott O'Neil, has downplayed concerns about the series' funding, stating that it is 'funded through the season' and that they will 'work like crazy' to keep it going despite speculation that Saudi backers may withdraw financial support. The breakaway golf league, backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, has been at the center of speculation this week, with reports suggesting that the PIF may end its funding, which has been estimated to be around $5bn since the series' launch in 2021. O'Neil's comments came after LIV team captain Sergio Garcia alluded to funding being in place until 2030, but O'Neil emphasized that the reality is that the business is funded through the season and that they work to create a business plan to keep it going. The PIF has not commented on the matter, and O'Neil's comments were made after reports emerged of an 'emergency meeting' in New York and the PIF reviewing its investments. Despite the speculation, some LIV Golf players, including Jon Rahm, have expressed that they are not too worried about the league's future, with Rahm stating that he was focused on preparing for the tournament and that he wasn't worried about the rumors.
