Atang: I Must Live Up to Moses Itauma's Achievements

As a highly touted heavyweight prospect, Leo Atang is under pressure to perform. Moses Itauma, who turned pro as a teenager, has quickly established himself as a world-class contender at just 21 years old. However, Atang is keen to carve out his own path, rather than follow in Itauma's footsteps. At 19 years old and with a 100 percent knockout ratio, Atang is focused on his own development, rather than trying to emulate Itauma's rapid rise. "I'm not trying to be the next Moses Itauma, I'm going to be myself," Atang said. "Everyone moves at different rates, and I'm going to plot my own course to the top of the heavyweight division." Atang acknowledges that a potential fight with Itauma is inevitable, but believes that time is on their side. "It'll happen when the time's right, there's no rush for either of us," he said. "We can wait, build our names, and when the time's right, it'll be a massive fight." Atang feels that he has faced added pressure due to Itauma's success, but is focused on his own journey. "I've had it tougher because I've had to follow in his shadow," he said. "But I'm grounded enough to know I'm not where I need to be to be calling out big names. When it's time, it's going to make it a lot more fun to get into some big fights in the heavyweight division." Atang's goal is to become a world champion, and he believes he is on the right path. "The world title's the goal for me, that's the plan," he said. "I know I'm on the right path, and when it's time to let me off the leash, that's up to the team to let me know."
