McIlroy Vows to Improve for Masters Victory

Rory McIlroy has acknowledged the need to elevate his game if he is to successfully defend his Masters title on the final day, following a disappointing third round that saw him relinquish a six-shot lead. McIlroy's one-over par 73 on Saturday left him tied with Cameron Young on 11 under, as several top contenders closed the gap. Despite struggling with his irons and making three bogeys, including a double bogey at the 11th hole, McIlroy remains optimistic about his chances. Speaking after his round, McIlroy stated, 'I knew today wasn't going to be easy... I didn't quite have it today.' However, he emphasized his determination to improve and capitalize on his position in the final group. McIlroy expressed confidence in his ability to bounce back, citing his experience and past performances under pressure. He noted, 'I'm in the final group, which is exactly where you want to be... I wish I had a little bit more of a cushion, but I'm going to go to the range here and try to figure it out.' McIlroy's victory last year marked the end of an 11-year major drought and the completion of his career Grand Slam. This year, he faces a different challenge, but he believes his experience and the more relaxed atmosphere of the final group will aid his chances. Golf analyst Rich Beem praised McIlroy's resilience, saying, 'He's got such a great mindset to just forget, forget exactly what happened the day before, or even two or three holes ago... He's not afraid to fail.' The final round of the Masters will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Golf, with coverage beginning at 4:30 pm on Sunday.
