Adam Peaty Secures British 100m Title with Sights on 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

Three-time Olympic gold medalist Adam Peaty emerged victorious in the 100m breaststroke event at the Aquatic Great Britain Swimming Championships, setting his focus on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. With a time of 58.97 seconds, the second-fastest globally this season, the 32-year-old demonstrated his potential to be a medal contender in two years. Peaty outperformed world junior champion Filip Nowacki, who finished second with 59.39 seconds, and Max Morgan, who completed the race in 59.56 seconds. Despite his success, Peaty acknowledged there is room for improvement, stating, 'I didn't think I could achieve that result, so that's the new benchmark.' Peaty, a six-time Olympic medalist, expressed his desire to push himself further, saying, 'I'm a competitor, and I want to bring out the best in myself.' He also emphasized his passion for swimming, saying, 'I'm still deeply committed to the sport, training daily and enjoying every moment in the water.' Nearly a year has passed since Peaty confirmed his decision to continue competing, following a break from swimming due to mental health issues and a 'self-destructive spiral.' Peaty won the Olympic 100m breaststroke title at Rio 2016 and retained it at Tokyo 2020, in addition to winning 4x100m mixed medley gold. At the Paris 2024 Games, he had to settle for silver in the 100m breaststroke due to physical issues, including a positive Covid test. In 2028, Peaty could become the oldest British swimmer to win an Olympic gold medal, at the age of 33.
