Noa-Lynn Van Leuven Vows to Continue Fighting After Transgender Women Ban in Darts

Transgender darts player Noa-Lynn Van Leuven has expressed her determination to keep fighting after being barred from competing in women's tournaments. The 29-year-old, who made history by becoming the first transgender woman to play at the World Darts Championship in 2024, has been affected by the Darts Regulation Authority's new rules. Although she can still participate in open tournaments, Van Leuven has voiced her disappointment and frustration with the decision. In a video on her Instagram account, she stated, 'Apparently, I just got retired - not by choice, but because I'm no longer allowed to compete.' Van Leuven has been a trailblazer in the sport, winning six titles on the women's tour since joining in 2022. She has received support from fellow players, including Michael van Gerwen and Luke Humphries, but has also faced opposition from some players who have withdrawn from matches against her. The Darts Regulation Authority cited a review of its policies and a report from an academic developmental biologist as the basis for its decision. Van Leuven has vowed to continue fighting, saying, 'This isn't just about me. This is another huge hit for the trans community.' She has called for acceptance and inclusivity, stating, 'Every day it's getting harder and harder for trans people just to exist, to compete. If you think this stops with me, it doesn't. We just want to be.'
