Draper's Clay-Court Season Off to a Disappointing Start Due to Injury

Jack Draper's clay-court season got off to a disappointing start as he was forced to retire from his first-round match against Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry at the Barcelona Open due to an injury. Draper had won the first set 6-3 but struggled with his movement thereafter, eventually withdrawing from the match in the third set. Despite being ranked higher than his opponent, Draper was hindered by a knee issue from the start of the second set, allowing Etcheverry to take control. Etcheverry praised Draper, saying, 'He was playing unbelievably... He's a great competitor, a great fighter.' Draper's withdrawal marks a setback in his return to the ATP Tour after a left-arm injury kept him sidelined since last August's US Open. He is next scheduled to play at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Madrid. Meanwhile, British No 1 Cameron Norrie secured a hard-fought win over three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, coming from behind to win 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-4. Norrie will now face American Ethan Quinn in the second round. In other news, Katie Boulter eased into the last 16 of the Rouen Open with a dominant 6-2 6-2 win over Maria Timofeeva, keeping her hopes of a first clay-court title alive.
