Maguire Commits to Manchester United with New Deal
Manchester United's defender Harry Maguire has signed a one-year contract extension with an option for an additional 12 months, ensuring his stay at Old Trafford extends into an eighth season. Maguire's previous deal was set to expire at the end of the current season. The 33-year-old believes the club is on an upward trajectory and is eager to be part of a successful campaign next season. 'It's amazing,' Maguire said in a club interview. 'To be at this club for seven years, and now going into my eighth, I'm really looking forward to it. A strong finish to the season is our focus, to put us in a good position for next year, and then we need to make next year better, more positive, and special.' Since Michael Carrick took charge, Maguire has been a constant presence for United, helping the team rise to third in the Premier League. His recent form earned him a recall to the England national team last month, his first international appearances in 18 months. Maguire feels the club has turned a corner and is in a good place. 'I believe we're in a forward curve with the club, and I want to be part of that,' he said. 'I want to leave the club in a good place when I do leave, and that's the most important thing. It's not about me or individuals; it's about the team and the club.' Maguire's contract extension follows his England recall and a significant upturn in form under Carrick. He has started every game since Carrick's arrival in January, losing only one of 10 games. Maguire expressed his pride in representing Manchester United, stating, 'It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day. I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.' Director of football Jason Wilcox praised Maguire, saying, 'Harry represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United. He is the ultimate professional who brings invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad.'
