Matthew Jordan posted a brilliant seven‑under‑par 65 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, propelling himself into the fight for the title despite having to endure a steady stream of good‑natured ribbing from TV host Piers Morgan. The Royal Liverpool Club member, who is still searching for his inaugural DP World Tour victory after 182 previous starts, managed to ignore the playful heckling from his amateur partner in the team segment of the tournament and produced a round that featured six birdies and an eagle on the demanding fairways of Carnoustie. Jordan’s only slip came on the ninth hole, the final hole of his round, where he made a bogey.

Even with that minor setback, he finished at ten under par, joining a four‑way tie for second place. "Honestly, the amount of sledging that comes my way from Piers is astonishing," Jordan said after his round.

"We’re supposed to be a team, but it feels like it’s all about him and that’s how he operates." He recounted a specific incident involving fellow competitor Peter Jones, the Dragons' Den entrepreneur, who missed a short two‑foot putt on the 15th. Morgan approached Jordan, who had just sunk a similar two‑foot putt, and quipped, "Don’t do a Jonesy." The comment, Jordan explained, gave him "the heebie‑jeebies" over a seemingly trivial putt, and he felt that whenever he performed well, Morgan was quick to shift the spotlight onto himself. Meanwhile, the leaderboard featured a mix of established stars and rising talents. South African Casey Jarvis held the lead at eleven under after posting a 67 at Kingsbarns.

However, the most impressive round of the day belonged to Spaniard Rocco Repetto‑Taylor, who carded an eight‑under 64 at Kingsbarns, the second of the three courses used for the opening rounds, with St Andrews slated for the final day. Repetto‑Taylor’s surge included four birdies and an eagle in his back‑nine, leaving him level with Jordan at ten under, alongside fellow South African MJ Daffue. Defending champion Bob MacIntyre sat at eight under after a 65 at Kingsbarns, while former major winner Brooks Koepka matched the Scot’s score with a 67, also at eight under.

Tommy Fleetwood and Ryder Cup teammate Matt Fitzpatrick each recorded four‑under rounds – Fleetwood with a 68 and Fitzpatrick with a 70 – both on the Kingsbarns layout. In a notable return to the DP World Tour after nearly four years, veteran Lee Westwood posted a solid four‑under 69 at Kingsbarns.

By contrast, fellow LIV Golf participant Ian Poulter struggled at Carnoustie, posting a 41 on the front nine that ballooned into a 76, leaving him four over par for the day. The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship continues to be contested across three historic venues: the Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie Golf Links, and Kingsbarns Golf Links, with Sky Sports Golf broadcasting the action live on Friday from midday. For golf enthusiasts looking to experience these iconic courses themselves, a network of 1,700 courses across the UK and Ireland offers booking options.
