Exeter Claims Victory Over Benetton with Slade's Decisive Penalty

In a nail-biting finish, Henry Slade's late penalty secured Exeter's 44-41 win over Benetton, setting up a semi-final showdown against Ulster in Belfast. After Jacob Umaga's try gave Benetton a 41-38 lead with 15 minutes remaining, Slade equalized with a penalty four minutes later and then sealed the victory with another penalty in the 78th minute, sparking outrage among the home crowd. The first half was marked by a frantic pace, with Exeter taking a 14-7 lead through Olly Woodburn's score and a penalty try, before extending their advantage to 24-14 with Immanuel Feyi-Waboso's try and Slade's conversion and penalty. However, the hosts leveled the score by halftime, thanks to an impressive try from Onisi Ratave and Umaga's conversion and penalty. Exeter regained the lead early in the second half with Harvey Skinner's converted try, but Bautista Bernasconi's score brought Benetton level once more. Although Andrea Zambonin's try put Exeter ahead 38-31, Umaga's penalty and subsequent try gave Benetton their first lead since the eighth minute. Ultimately, Slade's kicking proved decisive. Meanwhile, Investec Champions Cup holders Bordeaux overcame Toulouse 30-15 to book a semi-final clash with Bath. Bordeaux's defense held strong against Toulouse's early onslaught, before Maxime Lamothe's try from a maul in the 23rd minute. Toulouse responded immediately, but a red card for Dorian Aldegheri late in the first half hindered their progress. Despite this, Toulouse took a 12-5 lead into the break, only for Bordeaux to mount a comeback in the second half. Matthieu Jalibert's try and Ben Tameifuna's score, combined with Maxime Lucu's penalty, gave Bordeaux control of the tie. Arthur Retiere's try in the corner and Lucu's subsequent penalty sealed the victory for the French side.
