Team Europe have once again captured the Solheim Cup, edging out Team USA 15-13 following a dramatic singles day on Dutch soil. Entering the final round at Bernardus Golf, the competition was deadlocked at 8-8, meaning Europe needed at least 6.5 points from the singles matches to secure the trophy.
Two years after a defeat to the Americans, Charley Hull set the tone early, defeating Megan Khang 3&2 and giving Europe an immediate advantage. The momentum swung back and forth throughout the day.
Anna Nordqvist’s side briefly held a lead in eight of the twelve singles contests, and the lead widened when Linn Grant dispatched Angel Yin, completing a flawless week for the Swede. However, Alison Lee sparked a rally for the United States, clawing back from four holes down to beat Esther Henseleit 1 up, keeping the Americans alive.
World No. 1 Nelly Korda answered the challenge by beating rookie Mimi Rhodes 4&3, leveling the score once more. Subsequent victories from France’s Nastasia Nadaud, Denmark’s Nanna Koerstz Madsen, and Spain’s Julia Lopez Ramirez nudged Europe closer to the decisive total.
Lottie Woad’s win over Auston Kim lifted the hosts to 14 points and ignited celebrations among the European camp. Meanwhile, veteran Carlota Ciganda secured at least a half‑point, and later, in a match that echoed her 2023 triumph in Spain, she defeated Jennifer Kupcho to seal the home victory. Earlier, Kupcho’s late‑night birdies on Saturday had convinced Team USA captain Angela Stanford that the tide had turned in their favor.
The final day, however, saw Europe seize control. Hull, who had thrashed Korda 6&4 in the 2021 singles, was again entrusted with the opening match.
Although she had only contributed half a point in the first four sessions, Hull validated Nordqvist’s confidence by delivering a full point. Hull opened with a par on the first hole and never fell behind.
She matched Khang’s birdie on the eighth and then dominated the two back‑nine par‑fives, sealing a decisive victory. Hull reflected on her performance, saying, "I gave myself many chances, which was frustrating at times, but I stayed steady and hit a lot of greens." Grant made history by becoming only the ninth player to finish the Cup with a 4‑0‑0 record, posting a commanding 4&3 win over Yin. Lee mirrored Grant’s record, mounting an astonishing comeback from four down with seven holes to spare, stunning Henseleit in the process.
Lee noted, "I focused on consistency. The rain made the front nine tough, but once the weather cleared, my game improved." Korda delivered what many called the performance of the week against Rhodes, while Europe’s other three rookies also contributed points.
Nadaud beat Andrea Lee 3&2 for her third win of the debut, and Lopez Ramirez capped an unbeaten start by defeating Yealimi Noh. Madsen had earlier bested Allisen Corpuz, and Woad recovered from three consecutive lost holes on the back nine to finally beat Kim, leaving Europe on the brink of victory. Ciganda quickly built a lead against Kupcho and secured the winning point, saying, "I’m thrilled.
This team has been exceptional all week, perhaps one of the best we’ve had in recent years." Team USA rookie Lindy Duncan halted Maja Stark’s perfect run, and Lauren Coughlin handed Leona Maguire her first Solheim singles loss, narrowing the margin. In the bottom match, Rose Zhang defeated Celine Boutier 2 up, leaving the Frenchwoman without a point for the week.
Team Europe captain Anna Nordqvist praised the collective effort: "There’s been immense hard work this week and over the past two years. The support staff have been fantastic, making it easy for the players to focus on their golf. The vibe was great, everyone was a true teammate, and we started strong and finished strong.
I’m incredibly proud of the squad." Team USA captain Angela Stanford acknowledged Europe’s resilience: "We did many things right leading up to the event, and the players fought hard. The Europeans played brilliantly today. They had their backs against the wall, nothing to lose, and they executed perfectly. Congratulations to them." Looking ahead, the Ladies European Tour will travel to Spain for the La Sella Open at La Sella Golf Resort, commencing Thursday.
The LPGA Tour will pause for a week before the Walmart N Arkansas Championship from September 25‑27. The next Solheim Cup is slated for 2028 at Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky, scheduled for September 8‑10.
