Sky Sports has confirmed a new three-year agreement that will keep the network and its streaming service NOW as the sole broadcasters of the US Open across the United Kingdom and Ireland through to the close of 2030. The deal, struck with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and brokered by the USTA's media rights adviser IMG, guarantees that Sky will continue to provide exclusive live coverage of every event at the tournament, from the men's and women's singles to doubles, mixed doubles, junior contests and wheelchair matches throughout the three-week spectacle.
In addition to the traditional television feed, the extension ensures that fans can also access a rich library of on‑demand clips, highlights and short‑form content via Sky’s digital channels and social media outlets. This multi‑platform approach is designed to let viewers relive key moments, study tactical nuances, or simply catch up on matches they missed, all within a seamless online experience.
The most recent US Open coverage showcased a suite of technological enhancements that have become a hallmark of Sky’s tennis presentation. Viewers were treated to augmented‑reality graphics that overlay real‑time statistics onto the court, sophisticated data visualisations that break down serve speeds, rally lengths and player movement, and interactive touchscreen analysis tools that allow analysts to dissect points in granular detail. Behind‑the‑scenes features, player interviews and exclusive access segments further deepened the connection between the audience and the sport. The on‑air talent roster remains anchored by presenter Gigi Salmon, whose interviewing style and rapport with athletes have earned praise from fans.
She is supported by former professionals Tim Henman and Laura Robson, who provide expert commentary, strategic insights and personal anecdotes that enrich the broadcast. Additional analysts and co‑commentators are rotated throughout the season to bring fresh perspectives, while Jonathan Overend delivers play‑by‑play narration for each match, ensuring that the excitement of every point is conveyed with clarity and enthusiasm. The renewal comes at a dramatic juncture for the tournament. This year’s US Open featured a stunning first‑round upset when 24‑time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic was eliminated earlier than anyone anticipated, sending shockwaves through the tennis world.
The men’s final later produced a historic climax, with American Ben Shelton prevailing over Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in a match that concluded at 3.33 a.m., marking one of the latest finishes in the event’s history. On the women’s side, a highly anticipated showdown is set for Saturday as world number one Aryna Sabalenka prepares to face world number two Elena Rybakina, promising a contest of the highest calibre.
Jonathan Licht, Chief Executive Officer of Sky Sports UK & Ireland, commented on the extension: "The US Open is one of the highlights of the sporting calendar, featuring the biggest names in both the men's and women's games, all set against the spectacular New York backdrop. We're delighted to extend our partnership with the USTA, reinforcing our shared commitment to embracing innovation, showcasing the best in the sport and delivering world‑class coverage for viewers. This renewal further cements Sky Sports' position as the home of sport in the UK and Ireland, offering fans unrivalled breadth and value all year round." Kirsten Corio, Chief Commercial Officer of the USTA, added: "The US Open and Sky Sports have been trusted partners for many years, and we're excited to continue such a strong relationship with this renewal. Sky shares our commitment to delivering innovative and cutting‑edge coverage to a great audience of tennis fans in the U.K.
and Ireland, and we're confident that our continued partnership will have a direct impact on tennis' extraordinary growth and deepen fans' connection with the game." Beyond the US Open, Sky Sports provides year‑round tennis coverage, including comprehensive broadcasts of the ATP and WTA tours on its linear channels and via the NOW streaming platform and Sky Sports app. In total, Sky will air more than 4,000 matches across 80 tournaments this season, cementing its reputation as a premier destination for tennis enthusiasts. The US Open extension also bolsters Sky’s already extensive sports portfolio in the region. The network holds rights to roughly 1,500 Premier League fixtures, the Women’s Super League, English Football League and Scottish Professional Football League matches, as well as exclusive live coverage of every Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend through 2034.
Additional holdings include England’s men’s and women’s cricket internationals, live coverage of the four golf majors, continuous darts tournaments, world‑class boxing events from promoters Zuffa and MVP, and a broad array of programming from the NFL, Netball Super League and rugby league. The tournament will kick off on August 30, with live broadcasts on Sky Sports and streaming options on NOW and the Sky Sports app, allowing viewers to watch without a long‑term contract.
Fans interested in attending in person can also experience the Laver Cup live at The O2 in London from September 25‑27, which will be shown on Sky Sports as part of the network’s commitment to delivering top‑tier tennis content throughout the year.
