Chelsea have emerged as the Premier League's biggest spenders this summer, having largely completed their incoming business and now shifting the spotlight onto potential exits. To date, the club has already generated roughly £160 million from player sales in this transfer window, a figure that places them behind only Newcastle United (£244 million) and Aston Villa (£202 million) in terms of outgoing revenue.
Yet, given that Chelsea recouped a record‑breaking £314 million just a year ago, it would be unsurprising if they finish this summer as the league’s top sellers once more. According to the official club roster, the Blues now boast a squad of more than 40 senior players. With the transfer deadline fast approaching, a number of names are expected to depart in the final three weeks. Head coach Xabi Alonso has publicly stated his desire to trim the pool of centre‑back options to five, whereas the current tally sits at nine, meaning several defenders are likely to be on the move.
One of the first confirmed departures is Trevoh Chalobah, who has secured a transfer to Italian side Como in a deal that could rise to £30.8 million. Following his exit, centre‑backs Benoît Badiashile and Axel Disasi are also anticipated to leave. Napoli have signalled a willingness to pay around £20 million for Badiashile, proposing an initial loan with a purchase option.
However, Chelsea value the French defender at £30 million and he still has four years remaining on his contract, suggesting a higher asking price may be required. Disasi, who spent the latter half of last season on loan at West Ham United, is expected to fetch at least £25 million. Interest has also been reported for former Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo, though Chelsea have not disclosed a valuation for the player.
Meanwhile, Mamadou Sarr – who arrived from partner club Strasbourg last summer – is reportedly being lined up for a loan move to gain more first‑team minutes. Full‑back Malo Gusto has been the subject of considerable speculation. Despite the buzz, Chelsea have made it clear they are not looking to sell the France international and have placed a hefty £75 million price tag on him.
In the attacking department, the arrival of veteran striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton has created a surplus of forwards. This surplus could see Nicolas Jackson, Liam Delap and Marc Guiu pushed out the door.
Jackson, who spent the previous season on loan at Bayern Munich, has attracted interest from Aston Villa among other clubs, and Chelsea are demanding £65 million for his services. Any deal involving Villa is complicated by UEFA’s regulations on player swaps, especially since the two clubs are currently under a settlement agreement with the governing body. Moreover, Morgan Rogers moved from Villa to Chelsea within 45 days of the window’s closure, meaning any subsequent transaction between the clubs would be recorded as a player exchange, a scenario that is not ideal from an accounting perspective.
Delap, signed from Ipswich for £30 million, struggled to make an impact in his debut season but still commands a valuation of roughly £50 million after netting two goals last term. Everton have previously shown interest, having chased him while he was still at Ipswich. As for Marc Guiu, his loan spell at Sunderland was cut short, and he now appears to be on the radar of clubs in Spain and Italy. Chelsea are reportedly asking around £25 million for the young forward.
Beyond the immediate squad, Chelsea have also set a deadline of 5 p.m. on Friday for Manchester City to submit a bid for Enzo Fernandez. Barcelona’s pursuit of Rodri has reignited speculation that City might make a late‑season move for Fernandez before the window shuts.
City have identified Fernandez as a target, noting his prior working relationship with their new manager Enzo Maresca from their shared time at Chelsea. Nevertheless, Chelsea are not inclined to sell Fernandez, who has six years left on his contract and is valued at £120 million – a figure close to the £107 million they paid to secure his services from Benfica in the winter of 2023.
Fernandez was briefly dropped from the squad in April after expressing a desire to live in Madrid; both he and his agent later apologised for the comments and indicated they were seeking improved terms at Chelsea. In addition to transfer news, the club’s recent pre‑season fixtures have been highlighted.
Chelsea opened their summer campaign with a 6‑4 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers on July 28, followed by a 1‑2 loss to Tottenham on August 1 in Sydney. They then suffered a narrow 0‑1 defeat to Juventus in Hong Kong on August 5, rebounded with a 3‑0 win over AC Milan in Jakarta on August 8, and drew 3‑3 with Johor Darul Ta'zim on August 9.
