Louis Rees-Zammit Pledges Long-Term Future to Bristol Bears

Welsh rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit has formally committed to a long-term contract with the Bristol Bears, following his transfer to the team for the 2025-26 season after an 18-month stint in the NFL. Since joining the Bears, the 24-year-old has made a significant impact, scoring six tries in just eight appearances and making a successful return to the Wales national team during the autumn internationals. Rees-Zammit expressed his delight at extending his stay with the club, stating, "I'm thrilled to have secured my long-term future with Bristol. The club offers me the ideal environment to express myself and play the game I love, which brings out the best in me." Rees-Zammit initially announced his decision to pursue a career in the NFL on the eve of the 2024 Six Nations, but despite securing contracts with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Jacksonville Jaguars, he did not participate in any competitive NFL games. According to Bristol's director of rugby, Pat Lam, Rees-Zammit's time in the NFL has had a positive impact on his game. Lam noted, "Louis is an exceptional talent who embodies the style of play we aspire to at Bristol. Since his return from the NFL, he has demonstrated remarkable dedication and a strong desire to continue improving. His impressive speed, power, and skillset are evident, but what truly sets him apart is his eagerness to learn, adapt, and perform on the biggest stage." Rees-Zammit recently delivered a standout performance at full-back in the team's victory over Newcastle, a position Lam believes suits him best, while also playing on the wing for Wales in November. Lam added, "What's exciting is that Louis is only beginning to realize his potential - at just 24, there's still so much more to come from him. If he continues on this trajectory, he has all the necessary qualities to become one of the world's top players."
