In a groundbreaking move, Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors are set to make history by competing in the first-ever Super League fixture in Ireland in 2027. The highly anticipated match will take place at the state-of-the-art Laya Arena, which boasts a 20,000 capacity and is home to Leinster Rugby Union, on Saturday, April 24, with a 5:30 pm kickoff.
This is not the first time these two teams have met abroad, having previously clashed in Las Vegas in 2025. The Laya Arena, located in the heart of Dublin, has undergone an impressive €52m (£44.5m) transformation. The following day, Sunday, April 25, St Helens will face off against Hull FC at the same venue, marking a significant weekend for rugby league in Ireland. Although this will be the first Super League game held in Ireland, Warrington and Wigan have a history of competing in Dublin, with their last meeting taking place in 1934 at Shelbourne Park, and Wigan returning in 1995 to play Leeds in a Charity Shield fixture.
According to Warrington Wolves CEO Karl Fitzpatrick, "This is a landmark moment for our club, Super League, and the sport of rugby league, following the success of our projects in Las Vegas and Paris, and the appetite for taking our game to new audiences, Dublin is the perfect next destination." He further emphasized that "It's about more than 80 minutes of rugby league; it's an opportunity to create an unforgettable experience for our supporters, attract new audiences, and build the profile of Super League beyond its traditional heartlands." Wigan Warriors CEO Kris Radlinski also expressed his excitement, stating, "The opportunity to take a Super League fixture to Dublin is another exciting step forward for Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, and the sport of rugby league. Dublin has an outstanding reputation for hosting major sporting events, providing the perfect stage for two proud clubs and two passionate sets of supporters to showcase everything that makes our game special." The matches will be broadcast on Sky Sports, with every game of the Super League shown live this season, including two matches each round exclusively live, and the remaining five matches on Sky Sports+.
