Audi Makes History as First Team to Test 2026 F1 Car

In a historic moment, Audi became the first team to put their 2026 Formula 1 car through its paces during a filming day at the Barcelona circuit. The team, which has taken over the former Sauber outfit and is now a full-fledged works team producing its own engine, utilized one of its permitted filming days to fine-tune its new R26 car. This move comes ahead of the first pre-season testing event, scheduled to take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya from January 26-30. The new technical regulations for the 2026 season feature significant changes to both the chassis and engine, prompting the arrangement of three pre-season testing events. Audi's filming day provided valuable insights, with drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto getting behind the wheel. Team principal Jonathan Wheatley and Audi F1 head Mattia Binotto were also in attendance. Although the team's Instagram post offered a glimpse into the day's activities, the images of the car itself were discreet, revealing little about the design. The team will officially unveil its new car livery at an event in Berlin on January 20, followed by the first pre-season test in Barcelona. With all 11 teams on the 2026 grid having confirmed their launch plans, the stage is set for an exciting season, with the Australian Grand Prix kicking off the action from March 6-8.
