Held at Royal Lytham & St Annes, this major championship saw a dramatic conclusion to the year's women's golf calendar. Kuwaki secured her maiden major title, finishing on five under par alongside Esther Henseleit, who forced a playoff with a stunning 45-foot birdie on the final hole.
The playoff itself was a nail-biter, with both players making par on the first extra hole, before Henseleit's fortunes changed with a wayward tee shot on the next, allowing Kuwaki to claim victory with a two-putt. Overnight leader Yealimi Noh finished a stroke behind in third, while the world's top-ranked players, Nelly Korda and Jeeno Thitikul, ended a further stroke back in a tie for fourth.
The tournament saw Charley Hull and Lottie Woad's hopes for a home win slip away, as they finished in a share of sixth, four strokes off the lead.
