London Spirit Women achieved their maiden win of the season, overpowering Trent Rockets by five wickets in Nottingham. The South African duo of Marizanne Kapp and Nadine de Klerk played pivotal roles in the victory, with Kapp delivering impressive bowling figures of 3-12 from 20 balls.
Her economic bowling restricted Rockets to 142-7, with England's Charlie Dean also contributing 2-18 and Ash Gardner top-scoring with 34. In the chase, Spirit Women stumbled from 55-0 to 67-4 after Grace Harris' departure, but De Klerk's unbeaten 41 and Marie Kelly's 39 ensured a thrilling win with three balls to spare. De Klerk sealed the victory with a six off Georgia Adams, hitting the ball over deep square leg.
The win marked a significant turnaround for Spirit Women, who had suffered a defeat to Manchester Super Giants in their opening match. Trent Rockets, meanwhile, were unable to build on their previous win against Birmingham Phoenix. The match also saw notable performances from Sophia Dunkley, who hit three boundaries in a row off Deandra Dottin, and Ash Gardner, who slammed three consecutive fours off Nadine de Klerk.
De Klerk, however, had the last laugh, hitting two fours and three sixes to steer her team to victory.
